Softball Set for Four-Game Slate With Gannon Saturday and Sunday

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst softball team continues PSAC West competition this weekend when they play a four-game series with crosstown rival Gannon Saturday and Sunday. 

The Games 

The Lakers will host the Golden Knights on Saturday at the Mercyhurst North East softball field with first pitch of the doubleheader at 1 p.m. 

On Sunday, the teams will square off at Gannon for a twin bill that will also start at 1 p.m. 

Spectator Policy 

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the associated public health guidelines, no spectators will be allowed to begin the spring season. Mercyhurst will continue to remain in communication with local, state, and federal agencies over the course of the season to explore possible fan attendance at some point.

Last Time Out 

The Lakers took 3-of-4 from Clarion University in the opening series of the 2021 campaign. The Lakers were poised for a seventh-innning comeback scoring eight times to take the lead in the final game, but there bid for a sweep was thwarted by darkness that pushed the final score back to the end of the sixth. 

Mercyhurst hit six home runs in the series including five in the first two games of the series. Kaci Alderson hit a pair of home runs in the series. Marisa Cartellone drove in all three runs in the Lakers 3-2 victory over the Golden Eagles on Wednesday. 

In the Circle 

Mikaela Schramski has posted a 2-0 record with a 0.95 ERA in a pair of starts for the Lakers. Morgan Hilty has added a 1.11 ERA in a pair of relief appearances including a save on Wednesday. Cheyenne Hindman is 1-1 on the year with a pair of starts. The Lakers have struck out 15 while only walking two. 

At the Plate 

Sarah Koscho has a .636 average with three extra-base hits scoring four runs and driving in two. Alderson has a .455 average with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored. Hindman and Brianne Egelston are also posting averages over .400 after four games. 

Scouting the Golden Knights 

Gannon is 1-3 after a four-game set with Cal Pa. Maria Talliani paces the offense with a .400 batting average and a pair of doubles. Lindsay Lakatos adds a .375 batting average. 

In the circle Kennedy DeMatteis is 0-2 with a 1.40 ERA while Gabi Vasi is 1-1 with a 2.03 ERA.
