The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball will play their final scheduled non-conference game Wednesday as they head to Salem University for a 5 p.m. tip.
The Matchup
The Lakers and Tigers met for the first time last season, with Salem making the trip to Erie on Dec. 15, 2020. The Lakers came out on top in that one with an 82-61 win.
Keeping Score
Redshirt freshman Grace Centrulla has been making waves on the court this season, shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor and averaging 19 points per game. Those marks are the fourth-highest field-goal percentage in the PSAC and second-highest points-per-game average in the conference.
Specialists
Redshirt junior Julia Buchman has made her presence felt on the perimeter, taking nearly two-thirds of her shots from beyond the arc and making 35.7 percent of them. That average leads all Lakers who have attempted more than two per game, and is the ninth-highest percentage in the conference. That has helped her to 12.1 points per game, the second-most for Mercyhurst.
Underneath the rim, junior Jayde Boyd has played a pivotal role in taking back possession for Mercyhurst. Boyd is fourth in the conference with a 9.3 rebounds-per-game average and leads the Lakers in that category.
Scouting the Tigers
After winning their season opener against Alderson Broaddus, Salem has been on a six-game skid that has also seen them lose to Lock Haven and Shippensburg. Most recently, they dropped a 93-90 decision to Winston-Salem State on Saturday. Daniela Quesada's 15.7 points per game leads the Tigers, with Nerea Arambarri Fernandez (12.8) and Aleena Mongerie (11.0) also averaging in the double-digits. Mongerie has also posted 10 steals in seven games, with Quesada behind her in that category with nine.
