NASHVILLE, TN --- Eleven different skaters for the Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team picked up a point on Saturday afternoon as they flew past the Eagles of Boston College in the Smashville Women's Hockey Showcase Consolation Game.
Marielle Parks opened up the scoring nine minutes and 44 seconds into the first period when she snuck a shot in between the left post of the goal and Boston Colleges goaltender to give the Lakers an early 1-0 advantage. It was the sixth goal of the Erie natives freshman campaign.
The Eagles would respond later in the period when Jillian Fey scored at the 14:13 mark in the period to tie the contest at one goal a piece. Mercyhurst answered back quickly at the 15:19 mark when
Chantal Ste-Croix scored her fourth goal in her past four games. This goal, assisted by
Vanessa Upson and
Sydney Pedersen, would give the Lakers a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission break.
In the second period, the Lakers would go on to extend their lead to 3-1 when
Sarah Nelles tipped home a puck that was flung on goal by
Mary Sweetapple. Nelles and the Lakers power play unit did not fail to convert on a 5v3 advantage after two Boston College penalties. The goal was Nelles' first of her senior season.
Boston College did not back down as the Eagles made it a one-score game again, just 33 seconds after Nelles' goal. This time it was Gabby Roy finding the back of the net for the BC. The score remained 3-2 Mercyhurst going into the second intermission.
Sara Boucher scored early in the third period for the Lakers, ultimately sealing their victory. The Sophomore took a rebound off that spilled out in front of the net and slapped it home for her seventh goal of the year.

K.K. Thiessen were credited with assists on the Lakers fourth goal of the day.
The Mercyhurst defensive core led by goaltender
Jenna Silvonen kept the Eagles off the scoreboard for the remainder of the period to give us the final score, 4-2 Mercyhurst. Silvonen finished the contest with 24 saves between the pipes. The Lakers finished the game outshooting Boston College 51-26.
Up next, the Lakers will travel to the campus of Syracuse University for a couple of CHA matchups with the Orange, puck drop for Friday's opener will be at 7:00 p.m.
