Women’s Hockey Plays to a Draw vs St. Lawrence

The Mercyhurst University Women's Hockey Team played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon with the visiting Saints of St. Lawrence University. 

Grace Nelles scored in the opening minute for Mercyhurst to put the Lakers up 1-0 on the scoreboard. Nelles took a pass from Marielle Parks and snuck past the St. Lawrence defense, she then made a nice move and put a shot over the left shoulder of the Saints goalkeeper for her third goal of the season.

The score would remain 1-0 Mercyhurst going into the first intermission. In the second period of play, St. Lawrence would score their only goal of the contest at the 7:19 mark when Nara Elia scored her second goal of the weekend series. 

Jenna Silvonen and the Mercyhurst defensive unit was stout the remainder of the game, Silvonen recorded 27 saves including three in the overtime period to help the Lakers keep the tie. Both teams recorded 28 shots during the evening.

Next up, the Lakers will hit the road again as they will travel to Rochester, New York to compete against CHA foe RIT. The games will be just the third and fourth conference games for the Lakers this season.
