Women’s Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season at Home

The Mercyhurst University Volleyball Team looks to finish its regular-season schedule with a pair of home matchups this weekend. The Lakers will first host California (Pa.) Friday at 7:05 p.m. before welcoming in Seton Hill Saturday at 2:05 p.m.

Laker Overview

The Lakers hit a speed bump last week, dropping their contests against Gannon and Edinboro. After a six-game win streak that spanned most of the month of October, Mercyhurst has now hit a four-game skid that they hope to rectify this weekend.

On Tuesday, the Lakers were swept by Gannon in three straight sets on the road. Madison Kasper ended the match with six kills and Chase Cole followed her with four. Hannah Vuylsteke had 25 digs in the effort.

On Saturday, Mercyhurst showed heart with a 27-25 win in the third set after dropping the first two, but Edinboro fought back to seal the game in the fourth set. Kate Hennessey (12) and Beth Brady (11) both finished with double digit kills for Mercyhurst, Claire Kenny led the Lakers in assists with 26 and Vuylsteke recorded 25 digs.

Honor Roll

Kenny was named a PPG Paints Student Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Lakers' two games last week, providing 34 assists during that stretch. The redshirt-senior setter from Erie recorded 26 assists in Saturday's loss to Edinboro, and had an ace in the third set that helped the Lakers continue an early run that led to them winning the set. She also recorded 15 digs across the two games.

Scouting Cal

The Vulcans enter this weekend with a 13-10 record overall, 8-6 in conference play. They are riding a four-match win streak, but the Lakers handed Cal a 3-1 loss the last time the two met on Oct. 16

Scouting Seton Hill

Seton Hill will close out their regular season at the MAC after taking on Edinboro the night before. The Griffins take a 12-13 overall record, 5-9 in conference play, into the weekend. They were victorious in both of their matches last week, taking both Pitt-Johnstown and Clarion to fifth sets before edging out victories. Mercyhurst won the first meeting between the teams this season, 3-2, on Oct. 15.
