The Mercyhurst women's soccer team battled through wet conditions to keep their win streak alive at four games with a 1-0 victory at Clarion Saturday night.
Reigning PSAC West Athlete of the Week Emily Mijares provided the game's lone goal in the 73rd minute, assisted by Dani Hartman. Hartman set up Mijares in front of the net, and Mijares found the lower-right portion of the net from 15 yards away.
The Lakers out-shot the Golden Eagles, 13-6, and Mercyhurst put eight of those on goal. Meanwhile, sophomore Maddie Elbro had a relatively easy night in net for Mercyhurst, as she was forced to make just one save.
The Lakers had five different players contribute shots on goal, including Hartman, Mijares and Lauren Casey, who each had two on the night. Sydney Snyder and Amber Thomas also located shots on target.
The best scoring opportunity for the Golden Eagles came in the 66th minute, when Kylee Cross took a shot from 30 yards out that short-hopped Elbro in front of the net. Elbro was able to scoop it up and avert the danger.
The Lakers are rolling with just two games remaining in the regular season. They have allowed just one goal during their four-game win streak. Mercyhurst will return to action Wednesday with a trip to Indiana (Pa.) before returning home to close out the regular season against California (Pa.).
