Sheriff Scores as Men's Hockey Falls to RIT

Rochester, N.Y.—The Mercyhurst Men's Hockey team fell to the RIT Tigers on Saturday evening by a score of 3-1.

The Tigers took the lead in the first period as they scored 6:50 into the game.

After the first period the Lakers went into the locker room down one and were outshot 14-9.

RIT made the game 2-0 13:45 into the middle frame.

With just over 20 seconds remaining in the second, Dante Sheriff scored a power-play goal for the Lakers. Sheriff took the pass from Jonathan Bendorf and made no mistake beating the goalie over the shoulder for the Lakers first goal of the night. Owen Norton picked up an assist on the play as well.

Just over midway through the third period, RIT regained their two-goal lead.

Mercyhurst continued to battle but could not push another goal across.

The Lakers generated 30 shots in the loss while, Kyle McClellan made 33 saves in his third start of the season.

RIT was unable to convert on either of their power plays while the Lakers generated five shots and a power-play goal on their three opportunities.

Mercyhurst returns home next weekend as they will host the Sacred Heat Pioneers at the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Friday and Saturday.
