The Mercyhurst women's tennis team traveled to the University of Buffalo Saturday for a pair of matches, a neutral match against Binghamton University and an afternoon meeting with the hosts.
The Lakers started their morning off with a hard-fought win against the Bearcats, edging out the doubles point with a pair of wins before splitting the singles matches for a 4-3 victory.
Doubles pairs Kayla Dean and Roisin Murphy as well as Janice Theodora and Valentine Budin picked up wins to help seal the doubles point.
After dropping the top two singles matches, Murphy gave the Lakers a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Budin and Sara Bertolez each recorded straight-set victories, including a 6-0 set each, to complete the split and give the Lakers the win.
In their second match, the Lakers fell to the hosts, 7-0. Mercyhurst was able to snag a win at No. 1 doubles, but the Bulls took the doubles point with wins at two and three.
The Bulls swept the singles matches to shutout the Lakers.
