Men's Soccer Looks to Climb PSAC West Table

Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team will ride their two wins last week as they host Seton Hill Wednesday and visit Slippery Rock Saturday for a rematch of last week's 4-0 victory.

The Matchups

The Lakers and Griffins have met 19 times since 2003, and the Lakers have a 15-3-1 record against Seton Hill during that time. The two teams last met Sept. 29 at Seton Hill, where the Griffins won 3-0.

Mercyhurst and The Rock have matched up 46 times dating back to 1980. The Lakers have an all-time record of 26-18-2. The Rock visited Mercyhurst Wednesday and were handed a 4-0 loss by the Lakers.

Good Timing

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Lakers earned six points with a 4-0 victory over the Rock Wednesday and an 8-1 win against UPJ Saturday. Mercyhurst will take an 8-3-2 overall record and 5-1-1 conference record into this week.

After their big week, the Lakers sit in third place in the PSAC West with 11 points, behind Seton Hill (15 points) and Gannon (16). Seton Hill and Gannon will play each other Saturday, creating the opportunity for Mercyhurst to move up a spot in the table with another good week of play. The top three teams in each division advance to the playoffs.

Thrice as Nice

Sidney Warden recorded two separate hat tricks in the last week, netting three goals in each of the Lakers' wins. Along with two assists against UPJ, he has jumped atop the team leaderboard with 12 goals and 27 total points.

For his efforts, he was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week along with Emily Mijares on the women's side.

Sharing the Ball

Along with Warden's six goals, Nic Munch and Tom Barry each scored two goals last week. Sean Kerrigan added a goal as well.

In total, 13 players have scored at least one goal for the Lakers, while 19 players have contributed at least one point so far this season.

Scouting Seton Hill

The Griffins have a tough week ahead of them as they try to hold on to second place with games in Erie against Mercyhurst Wednesday and Gannon Saturday. Elias Vangen leads the Griffins with four goals, while Archie Lock paces the offense with 10 total points.

The Griffins are 8-5-1 overall and 5-1-0 in conference play.

Scouting Slippery Rock

The Rock are 5-7-2 (2-3-2 in conference play) after the loss to Mercyhurst Wednesday. They are led in scoring by Mo Kanani with five goals. Both Kanani and Ramses Minaya lead the team with 10 total points. Hossam Aly and Derek Hoffman have combined in net for a .718 saves percentage and 1.51 goals against average.
