The Mercyhurst University Volleyball Team is scheduled to play two more matches this week against PSAC opponents Seton Hill and California (Pa). The Lakers will first travel to Greensburg, Pa on Friday evening to take on the Griffins at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, Mercyhurst will compete on the campus of California (Pa) against the Vulcans at noon.
The Games
Mercyhurst and Seton Hill will match up against one another for the 19th time on Friday evening. All time, the Lakers record against the Griffins is 7-11. Most recently, the two teams played each other in early November of 2019. Seton Hill swept that match in straight sets 25-20, 25-22, 25-21.
The Lakers hold a current record of 11-20 against Cal. Most recently, the teams played a five set thriller back in November of 2019. Mercyhurst squeaked by with a victory in that one.Â
From Last WeekendÂ
Last weekend the team picked up their two biggest wins over the year over Gannon and Edinboro. Gannon came to the MAC on Friday last week, the Golden Knights were receiving votes in the latest national poll however that didn't faze the Lakers as they went on to sweep Gannon 25-19, 25-15, 26-24.
The contest against Edinboro was a five set thriller. The two teams traded sets back and forth, ultimately the Lakers took the decisive fifth set 15-12 to defeat the top squad in the PSAC West standings.
Milestone Reached
During last Saturday's game against Edinboro, redshirt senior
Claire Kenny reached her 1,000th career assist as a Laker. The Erie native Kenny racked up a team high 23 assists to help lead Mercyhurst past the Fighting Scots.Â
Fellow redshirt senior
Hannah Vuylsteke is close to reaching a milestone of her own. The Libero is only 242 digs shy of the 2,000 career dig mark at Mercyhurst. If Vuylsteke can hit 2,000 she will be the first Laker to ever reach that mark.
Scouting Seton Hill
Seton Hill enters Friday's match with a 9-8 overall record while they are 2-4 in conference play. The team lost their last match up against UPJ in straight sets.
Scouting California (Pa)
The Vulcans currency hold a 9-6 record and are riding a four-game winning streak. Cal will host Gannon on Friday before the match on Saturday against the Lakers.
