Erie, PA--- The Mercyhurst University Volleyball team took the hardwood on Friday evening inside the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. Mercyhurst matched up against PSAC West foe Clarion. The Golden Eagles defeated Mercyhurst three sets to zero.
In the first set the teams started gridlocked, Mercyhurst then rattled off 4 straight points to take an 11-8 lead. The run ws highlighted with kills from Beth Brady, Madison Kasper, and Hailey Wilson. Clarion rallied back to tie at 13-13 and went on to win set number one 25-20.
Clarion jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the second set. Mercyhurst then scored three straight making it 13-11 due to ball handling and attacking errors on Clarion. The Golden Eagles would eventually win their second set 25-20.
In the third set, Mercyhurst made it 14-16 after a kill from
Paige Miller and an ace from Cole. However, following Cole's ace Clarion went on a 9-3 run to finish out the match.
Brady led Mercyhurst with seven kills in the match followed by five a piece from Kasper and Miller. Sophomore
Maggie Thomas had a team high .400 hitting percentage. She tallied two kills on five attempts.
Claire Kenny led the Lakers in assists with 15 and
Chase Cole has a season high three aces.
Tomorrow the Lakers will welcome the Crimson Hawks of IUP into the MAC, starting lineups set for 2:00 p.m.
