Nystrøm Stops 21 in Mercyhurst Debut

Erie, PA—The Lakers skated in their third CHA game of the 2020-21 season and fell by a score of 1-0 to the RIT Tigers.

How it Happened

Sophomore goalie Ena Nystrøm made her Mercyhurst debut in net after starting her career at RPI.

In the first period Nystrøm stopped all six shots that came her way while the Lakers peppered RIT goalie Taylor Liotta with 21 shots in the first period.

In the second period Nystrøm stopped 10 of the 11 RIT shots. With just 25 seconds left in the period RIT's Hana Solinger was able to grab the rebound off Nystrøm's right pad and was able to bury what would be the game winning goal.

The Lakers in the third period once again peppered Liotta with shots as she was able to stop all 14 Mercyhurst shots.

Mercyhurst was able to outshoot the Tigers 42-22, while senior captain Alexa Vasko had a team high nine shots and won 20 faceoffs and losing only 7.

Special Teams

The Lakers were able to successfully kill off all 6 of their penalties continuing, picking up where they left off in December when they killed off all their penalties. The Lakers were unable to capitalize on any of their four powerplays.

Up Next

Mercyhurst and RIT will square off tomorrow in Rochester for the fourth and final time this season. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 PM tomorrow.
