Offense Drives Lakers Past No. 17 Robert Morris

ERIE, Pa. – Seven different Lakers found the back of the net as the Mercyhurst men's hockey team earned a 7-5 victory over No. 17 Robert Morris Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

After three straight Robert Morris goals erased a 5-2 Mercyhurst advantage, Jonathan Bendorf put the Lakers up for good with a one timer from between the dots on the power play at the 7:35 mark of the third. Paul Must would tack on an empty-net goal to set the final.

With the game tied 2-2, Cade Townsend gave Mercyhurst their first lead of the night when he carried behind the net and stuffed one behind Noah West 7:22 into the second.

Joseph Maziarz extended the lead drifting into the high slot and sniping a wrist shot off a feed from Dante Sheriff with 9:27 remaining in the second.

Just over two minutes later, Michael Bevilacqua stepped into a failed clear attempt and beat West up high chasing the Colonial goalie and making it 5-2 Lakers.

Robert Morris clawed back with three goals in four and a half minutes to enter the second intermission tied 5-5.

The Colonials opened the scoring 5:34 into the first period on a Kyler Head tally. The Lakers responded when Keanan Stewart scored his first collegiate goal with 12:33 past in the first.

Robert Morris took a 2-1 lead into the first break after a Brendan Michaelian goal with 2:11 left in the first.

Sheriff wasted no time getting the score even in the second with a goal just 51 seconds into the frame.

Townend and Bevilacqua each tallied two points on a goal and an assist. Austin Heideman and Gueorgui Feduolov each tallied a pair of helpers.

Hank Johnson earned the win between the pipes making 44 saves on the night.
