WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Mercyhurst women's softball team defeated Cedarville 8-3 before taking down the College of Saint Rose 6-4 during day five of the Spring Break trip on Thursday.
Mercyhurst 8, Cedarville 3
Mercyhurst scored one run in the second when
Emma LeGendre homered to left field to give the Lakers an early 1-0 lead.
Cedarville took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning before Mercyhurst crossed the plate six times in the sixth to make it 7-2. With bases loaded, Brianna Egelston doubled to right center to bring home
Madison Fry,
Anna O'Geen and
Erin Sammarco.
Kaitlin Hoffner then singled up the middle to bring home Egelston before LeGendre singled up the middle to bring home
Ashley Thompson and
Cheyenne Hindman.
Cedarville tallied one run in the sixth but it wasn't enough as the Lakers scored one more run in the seventh to win 8-3. Egelston singled to left field and brought home
Alyssa Coons.
Fry had three hits while Egelston, Hindman and LeGendre had two hits each. Single hits were picked up by
Allison Dejidas,
Natalie Graff, Hoffner and O'Geen. Egelston led the Lakers with four RBI, LeGendre had three and Hoffner had one.
Hindman pitched four innings and earned the win with three strikeouts.
Marisa Cartellone pitched three innings for the Lakers allowing only three hits.
For Cedarville, Brooke Miller had two runs and Sarah Parsons picked up the other run. Brooke Miller tallied all three RBI.
Olivia Wolffe got the loss on the mound pitching five innings with five walks and four runs on eight hits.
Mercyhurst 6, Saint Rose 4
Mercyhurst took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Hoffner hit a homer and brought home Fry.
Saint Rose then took a 3-2 lead in the third inning before Mercyhurst scored three in the fourth to make it 5-3. Egelston singled and scored Coons and LeGendre. Hindman then singled and scored Fry.
Both teams had a homerun in the fifth the eventually end the game 6-4 Mercyhurst.
Sarah Koscho had the homerun for the Lakers.
Egleston and Hoffner had two RBI each while Hindman and Koscho had one RBI each.
Cartellone went the distance on the mound and earned the win. She had three strikeouts and allowed only six hits.
For Saint Rose, Madison Chandler scored twice while Emmie Gilmore and Colette Cohen had one run each. Savanna Liverio, Shannon Moore, Gilmore and Chandler had one RBI each.
Alysa Houghtaling got the loss, pitching four innings with two walks and six runs on nine hits.
Mercyhurst is back in action and will finish up its spring break trip on March 6 when it plays Urbana at 2:30 p.m. and Concordia St. Paul at 4:45 p.m.
