Box Score UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –
Kennedy Blair made 20 saves in her fourth shutout of the season as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team took down Penn State 3-0 during College Hockey America action on Friday.
Alexa Vasko and
Emma Nuutinen had one goal and one assist while
Megan Korzack scored the other Laker goal.
K.K. Thiessen,
Sarah Nelles and
Maggie Knott recorded assists for Mercyhurst (19-9-5, 13-3-3).
Korzack got the Lakers on the board first with a goal at 7:01 of the first period. Thiessen passed the puck up to Korzack who sent it across for
Emily Pinto but it deflected off a Penn State player and found the back of the net.
After a scoreless second period, Nuutinen extended the Lakers' lead to 2-0 as she found the loose puck and fired it past Penn State goaltender Chantal Burke. Nelles and Vasko tallied assists.
At 14:00 of the third period, Knott slid the puck to Nuutinen who took a shot that was rebounded to Vasko who skate handled it to the side and put it past Burke.
The Lakers went 1-for-5 on the power play while the Nittany Lions were 0-for-5.
Burke made 21 saves in net for Penn State (11-14-8, 6-8-5).
With one regular season game left, Mercyhurst is in first place in the CHA standings, one point in front of Robert Morris.
The two teams are back in action Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for the last game of the regular season.
