Men's Basketball Remains in Second After Season Sweep of Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's basketball team put four players in double-figures led by 19 from Zach McIntire as the Lakers swept the season series over the Edinboro Fighting Scots with an 89-69 win on the road at McComb Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

Daylon Harris and Trey Staunch had the home side off to a good start as they led 6-5 almost four minutes in.  McIntire hit from deep and jammed one home, along with a jay by Cameron Gross gave the guests a 12-6 edge.  A jumper from Alex Jay cut it to 12-8, before MiyKah McIntosh, Nicholas Lang, and Joel Ufele answered with a 10-0 run to extend their advantage to 22-8 with 11:28 left.  Three shots on the foul line from Jaryn Simpson and a layup by Staunch trimmed the gap to 24-13.  Steve Cannady and Gross buried shots from deep coupled with a McIntire fastbreak layup moved the visitors in front 32-15 at the 14:26 mark.  Anthony Coleman and Cannady exchanged triples leaving the score at 35-20.  Staunch converted an old-fashioned three-point play, before Mercyhurst came back with a 10-2 run to end the half up 45-25.

Michael Bradley, McIntosh, McIntire, and Gross helped the Lakers push the lead over 20 at 53-32 with 2:34 gone.  Mercyhurst continued their attack with triples by Gross, McIntosh and Lang, followed by a Gross layup stretched the margin over 30, 64-32.  Edinboro responded with buckets from Turner Kurt, Coleman, and Simpson to get back within 64-40.  The three-point barrage by the visitors went on with McIntire (2) and Lang hitting outside the arc to put the lead at 79-45 at the halfway point of the second half.  The hosts came back with a 12-2 stampede on baskets from Coleman, Kurt, Simpson, and Staunch cutting the deficit to 81-57.  Mercyhurst kept the 20-plus point cushion the rest of the way as Andrew Seager capped the scoring for the side with a dunk at the 18:58 mark.  Alec Ferrari hit a jumper for final points of the game resulting in the 89-69 final.

The Lakers went 50% (33-66) from the field, 48.4% outside the arc, and 66.7% (8-12) on the foul line.  Edinboro were 46.6% on the floor, 38.9% from distance, along with 80% at the charity stripe.  The Fighting Scots outscored the guests 32-21 off the bench, but the Lakers capitalized off of their opponents mistakes holding a 15-5 edge.  Mercyhurst committed a season-low four turnovers.

McIntosh (17), Gross (16), and Lang (14) joined McIntire in double-figures.  Ufele added eight and Cannady chipped in six.  Gross and Lang combined for 11 boards, while Bradley, Ufele, and Cannady grabbed four each.

Coleman (16), Staunch (12) and Simpson (10) led Edinboro.  Harris put up nine with Kurt and Ferrari both netting eight.  Staunch had a team-high seven rebounds.
