Greenville, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst women's softball team fell 9-4 and 10-3 to Davis & Elkins on Friday during its first games of the 2020 season.
Davis and Elkins 9, Mercyhurst 4
D&E scored two in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Mercyhurst came back with three runs in the second inning to take and hold a 3-2 lead until the fifth inning. Mercyhurst added another in the fifth to make it 4-2 before D&E scored four in the fifth and three in the sixth to win 9-4.
Allison DeJidas homered for the Lakers while
Alyssa Coons,
Sarah Koscho and
Emma LeGendre also scored for the Lakers.
Brianna Egelston went 2-for-4 at bat while Koscho and LeGendre both went 1-for-3.
LeGendre led the team with two RBI and DeJidas had one.
Cheyenne Hindman pitched five innings allowing 11 hits, five runs and striking out two.
Marisa Cartellone pitched one inning while allowing two hits and three runs.
For D&E, Holt had three runs, Malloy had two runs and sinlge runs were earned by Millner, Boelter, Tandarich and Maddy.
Grindstaf pitched three innings allowing five hits and three runs. Willis pitched one inning and evens pitched two innings.
Davis and Elkins 10, Mercyhurst 3
D&E scored one in the first, five in the third and one in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. Mercyhurst came back with two in the fifth but it wasn't enough as D&E scores one in the sixth and two in the seventh. Mercyhurst scored one more in the sixth but fell 10-3.
Jenna Balducci,
Kaitlin Hoffner and Koscho scored runs for the Lakers.
Chloe McQuestion went 3-for-3 at bat.
McQuestion and Cartellone had one RBI each.
Hoffner pitched all seven innings with four strike outs.
For D&E, Millner, Holt, Smith and Malloy had two runs each while Persinger and Tandarich had one each. Malloy tallied three RBI.
Boelter pitched five innings allowing 10 hits and three runs while Evans pitched two innings.
The Lakers are back in action on Saturday when they take on Charleston at 11:00 a.m. and Glenville at 3:00 p.m.
