Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team rolled past the Rochester Institute of Technology 5-1 during College Hockey America action on Saturday.
Sarah Nelles scored twice while
Emma Nuutinen and
Maggie Knott had one goal and one assist.
Michele Robillard had the other Laker goal.
Sam Isbell had two assists while
Alexa Vasko,
Liliane Perreault,
K.K. Thiessen and
Rachel Marmen had single assists for Mercyhurst (14-8-4, 8-2-2).
Abby Davies scored for RIT (9-15-2, 2-10-0).
Nelles opened up the scoring with two goals in three minutes and thirty seconds to give Mercyhurst an early 2-0 lead.
At 3:25 of the first period, Nuutinen took the puck behind the net and passed it out to Vasko who shot it with the rebound landing in front of the net for Nelles to tap in.
Nelles scored her second of the night when Knott dished the puck up to Isbell who slide it over to Nelles as it went off her skate and into the back of the net.
Nuutinen scored 17 seconds into the second period to make it 3-0 as she sniped to the top corner.
Late in the second period, Mercyhurst converted on the power play to make it 4-0 Lakers. Isbell passed it over to Thiessen who slid it across to Knott. Knott then made her way around a RIT player to send a rocket to the top right corner of the net.
During the third period, Robillard scored on the breakaway with an assist from Marmen to extend the Lakers lead to 5-0.
RIT came back with one goal on the power play, but the Lakers took the game 5-1.
Both teams went 1-for-3 on the power play.
Kennedy Blair made 14 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Taylor Liotta made 31 saves for RIT.
The Lakers have next weekend off before traveling to Lindenwood on Feb. 7-8. Puck drops at 6:20 p.m. CT (7:20 p.m. EST) on Friday and 1:00 p.m. CT (2:00 p.m. EST) on Saturday.
