Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. –
Michele Robillard and
Emma Nuutinen scored two goals as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team took down the Rochester Institute of Technology during College Hockey America action on Friday.
Nuutinen also had one assist.
Sam Isbell scored the other Laker goal.
K.K. Thiessen and
Maggie Knott tallied two assists while single assists were earned by
Summer-Rae Dobson,
Rachel Marmen and
Kennedy Blair had assists for Mercyhurst (13-8-4, 7-2-2).
Jaymee Nolan and Abby Davies scored for RIT (9-14-2, 2-9-0).
Mercyhurst got on the board first during a power play at 5:34 of the first period.
Jordan Mortlock shot the puck which was rebound towards Dobson who shot it again. Robillard then picked up the loose puck and beat RIT goaltender Jessi O'Leary to her left side.
RIT tied the game up halfway through the second with a goal from Nolan.
With 43 seconds left in the second, period Mercyhurst capitalized on its second power play of the night to take the lead back 2-1. Blair sent the puck up to Nuutinen who carried it over the blue line towards the net and went top shelf.
During the second period, Robillard scored her second goal of the night just four minutes into the period. Marmen shot the puck and Robillard picked up the rebound to make it 3-1.
At 15:22 of the second period, the Lakers converted on the power play for the third time with Nuutinen's second goal of the night. Knott and Thiessen had assists.
During the third period, RIT scored one goal to make it 4-2 before
Alexa Vasko, Isbell and Thiessen killed off a 5-on-3 penalty to keep the Lakers ahead by two.
The Lakers then came back with a goal from Isbell to end the game at 5-2. Knott and Nuutinen had assists.
The Lakers went 3-for-5 on the power play while the Tigers went 0-for-4.
Kennedy Blair made 22 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Jessi O'Leary made 34 saves in net for RIT.
Both teams are back in action Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
