ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst volleyball team dominated visiting Lock Haven 3-0 on Homecoming Saturday night inside the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
In the opening set, the Lakers held a 10-7 edge after a pair of Bald Eagle kills. Mercyhurst opened up a 14-7 lead scoring four straight behind a pair of kills by
Madison Kasper. The Laker advantage grew to 19-13 and six straight points gave the Lakers the first set 25-13.
Mercyhurst jumped all over Lock Haven in the second set going up 16-4. The Lakers closed out the set 25-9. In the third, the Lakers pushed the lead out to 11-2. The Bald Eagles trimmed the lead to 14-6, but Mercyhurst had the answer again extending the lead to 19-9. After four straight Lock Haven points, the Lakers reeled off six straight points to win the set 25-13.
Kasper led the way for the Lakers with 10 kills on just 17 attacks for a .588 hitting percentage.
Alyssa Zirnheld tallied nine kills.
Mary Marusza and
Claire Kenny each dished out 11 set assists.
Hannah Vuylsteke led the Lakers with 15 digs.
Mercyhurst returns to PSAC action on Tuesday when they host crosstown rival Gannon at 7:05 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
