Box Score ERIE, Pa. – Seven players record goals, five first collegiate goals, as the Mercyhurst women's soccer team downs Wheeling 10-0 on Saturday during non-conference action on Saxon Stadium.
Alyssa Otto,
Laia Santos and
Cristy Senskey scored two goals each while single goals were recorded by
Beata Sundling,
Fern Lazenby,
Maya Bauer and
Taryn Baxter for Mercyhurst (1-0-1).
Bauer and Baxter also tallied one assist each along with
Sydney Snyder and
Maria Vidal.
Four minutes into the game, Sundling scored her first collegiate goal on a penalty kick to get Mercyhurst on the board.
During the 12th minute, Snyder crossed the ball in towards the net and Otto headed it past Wheeling goaltender Megan Herter, for her first collegiate goal.
The Lakers then scored two goals in two minutes to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. Santos ripped it in off the left post before Lazenby put it in off the right post for her first collegiate goal.
Two minutes into the second half, Otto scored her second goal of the game off of a cross from Bauer.
During the 53rd minute, Baxter took a shot that rebounded to Bauer, who put it home to make it 6-0 Mercyhurst.
The Lakers kept it going when Senskey scored her first collegiate goal in the 65th minute of play. She picked up a bouncing ball in the box and put it past Herter.
In the 70th minute, Baxter tallied her first collegiate goal off of a failed clear from Wheeling to make it 8-0.
Santos picked up her second goal of the night in the 78th minute to extended the Lakers before Senskey scored her second goal of the night during the 86th minute to give Mercyhurst a 10-0 win. Vidal tallied an assist on the goal.
Wheeling didn't register a single shot on goal, giving Mercyhurst goaltender
Vilde Wold an easy night. She picked up her second straight shutout with the 10-0 win.
Herter made 11 saves in net for Wheeling (0-3).
Mercyhurst held an 8-0 edge in corner kicks and a 34-3 shot advantage over Wheeling.
The Lakers are back in action on Sept. 18 when they host Gannon at Saxon Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
