Women's Soccer Hosts Wheeling for Home Opener

The Mercyhurst women's soccer team is hosting Wheeling for its home opener on Sept. 14 on Saxon Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
 
Series Matchup
In the last three contests, the Lakers have come out on top. Last season Mercyhurst defeating Wheeling 4-0. The Lakers hold a 10-2 advantage in goals scored.

Scouting Wheeling
Wheeling is coming into the game with a 0-2 record. The Cardinals lost 5-1 to Alderson Broaddus and 3-2 to Malone.
 
Kenadee Burgoyne has all three goals for Wheeling while Marley Magruder and Kendra Benzel each have one assist. Both goaltenders, Megan Herter and Mikayla Yarwood, have played one game each. Herter has saved eight shots and Yarwood has made two saves.

A Look at the Lakers
Mercyhurst is coming off of a scoreless match with Lock Haven, giving it a 0-0-1 record.  The Lakers played seven minutes of their match with Edinboro before it was postponed due to weather.
 
The Lakers come into the 2019 season with 21 returning players and 19 freshmen. Mercyhurst returns nine of the top ten scorers from last season, including its top two scorers Maya Fanazini and Bauer.

PSAC Defensive Player of the Week
Vilde Wold was named the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts against Lock Haven. She made seven saves in net for the Lakers.

Parking
Fans, please be advised that the parking lot in front of Saxon Stadium (P10) will be shut down due to tailgating for football. Fans are encouraged to park in Lot 8 and Lot 12. Parking is free on campus for those attending either soccer game. Fans who wish to park in Lot 8 are encouraged to enter on the Briggs Avenue entrance, and for those wishing to park in Lot 12, are encouraged to enter via Parade Street or the Main Entrance.
