ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Softball team split its double header with Seton Hill during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at the Mercyhurst Softball Field on Sunday. The Lakers fell 2-1 in the first game before rallying for a 5-4 win in the second game.
The Lakers are back in action on April 10, when they host non-conference opponent Lake Erie for a makeup double header starting at 3:00 p.m.
Seton Hill 2, Mercyhurst 1
After three scoreless innings of play, Mercyhurst took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Seton Hill came back with a run of its own in the fifth the tie the game at 1-1, before scoring again in the seventh to win 2-1.
Sarah Koscho scored the lone run for Mercyhurst.
Ellie Dougher went 2-for-4 at bat while single hits were credited to
Taylor Fry,
Jamie Ward,
Natalie Graff, Magan Minihane and
Chloe McQuestion.
McQuestion earned the lone RBI for the Lakers. Graff recorded a double.
Tori Pierucci went the distance on the mound while recording five strike outs and allowing only two hits on 22 at bats. She allowed two earned runs and walked two batters.
For Seton Hill, Chelsea Rohan recorded both runs including a homer. She and Nichole McClendon had one hit and one RBI each.
Leighann Pettis was the winning pitcher for Seton Hill. She played four innings while allowing one earned run and three hits on 15 at bats. Devyn Terry earned the save, pitching two innings and striking out two batters.
Mercyhurst 5, Seton Hill 4
After three scoreless innings, Seton Hill took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Mercyhurst came back with two runs in the fifth inning to make it 2-1. The Griffins took the lead back with three runs in the sixth inning to make it 4-2 before Mercyhurst rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to win 5-4.
In the sixth inning, Graff doubled to center field to score Coons and Ward. Balducci then singled up the middle to run in Graff for the Lakers seventh win of the season.
Graff scored two runs while single runs were scored by
Alyssa Coons, Ward and Koscho. Graff went 2-for-3 for the Lakers while
Jenna Balducci, Fry, Ward, Coons, Koscho and McQuestion had one hit each.
Graff and McQuestion earned two RBI each and Balducci picked up one RBI.
Laura Gregory was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst. She pitched five innings while recording one strikeout and allowing only one earned run.
Tori Pierucci also pitched two innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
For Seton Hill, Brooke Bower, Christiana Skrabak, Abbie Thrower and Trinity Cumo record runs. Bower had three hits while Jenna Osikowicz, McClendon and Cumo had one hit each.
Cumo record a triple while Bower had a double.
Terry was the losing pitcher for Seton Hill. She allowed one earned run. Skyla Greco also pitched for the Griffins allowing four earning runs and walking two batters.
