ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team swept non-conference opponent Lake Erie winning 6-5 and 10-1 on Wednesday at the Mercyhurst Softball Field.
The Lakers are back in action on April 12 when they travel to Edinboro for a double header starting at 2:30 p.m.
Mercyhurst 6, Lake Erie 5 (7 inn)
Mercyhurst took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Lake Erie came back and tied it at 1-1 in the second inning. The Lakers then took a 2-1 lead in the second inning. Lake Erie took its only lead of the game in the fourth inning when it scored two runs to make it 3-2. Mercyhurst came back with four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead. The Storm rallied for two runs in the sixth but it wasn't enough as the Lakers won 6-5.
Taylor Fry went 3-for-4 while
Jenna Balducci went 2-for-3.

Natalie Graff,
Sarah Koscho and
Chloe McQuestion had one hit each for Mercyhurst.
Laker runs were scored by
Erin Sammarco, Dougher, Fry, Graff, Balducci and McQuestion.
Balducci scored a triple while Coons had a double.
Tori Pierucci was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst play five innings while striking out three batters and allowing only one earned run.
Laura Gregory earned the save, pitching one inning.
For Lake Erie, Payton Brownlee and Leah Buck had two runs each while Cheyanne Hamel scored one run. Brownlee went 3-for-4 and Hamel went 2-for-3. They both also recorded doubles.
Rachel Ward was the losing pitched for Lake Erie. She went the distance on the mound while striking out two batters and allowing five earned runs.
Mercyhurst 10, Lake Erie 1 (5 inn)
The Lakers took an early 7-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. They added another run in the second to make it 8-0. The Storm tallied their only run of the game in the third inning before Mercyhurst (9-22) scored two more runs in the fourth to end it 10-1.
Jolene Teller went 2-for-2 at bat for the Lakers.
Fry and Graff had two runs each while
Meredith Grimes,
Jolene Teller, Dougher, Ward, Balducci and Koscho each had one run.
Ward hit a home run while Grimes and Graff each recorded a double. Dougher, Fry and McQuestion also had one hit each.
Gregory was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst going the distance. She struck out three batters and allowed only one earned run.
For Lake Erie (9-19), Chloe Allen went 2-for-2 while Kristin Peacock scored the lone run.
Parker Viele was the losing pitcher as she walked five batters and allowing four earned runs. Hayley Dix also pitched for the Storm while walking one batter and allowing two earned runs.
