Softball Splits Double Header with Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team split its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference double header with Slippery Rock on Wednesday. The Lakers took the first game 2-1 before falling 4-2 in game two.
 
The Lakers are back at home on April 5, when they host Seton Hill for a double header starting at 2:30 p.m. on the Mercyhurst Softball Field.
 
Mercyhurst 2, Slippery Rock 1
Mercyhurst took an early 1-0 lead during the second inning before extended its lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning. Slippery Rock came back with one run in the fifth inning, but it was not enough as Mercyhurst took the first game 2-1.
 
Jolene Teller and Natalie Graff score runs for the Lakers while Ellie Dougher, Alyssa Coons, Sarah Koscho, Jenna Balducci and Paige Crittela tallied one hit each. Graff also tallied one hit.
 
Crittela stole a base for the Lakers while Dougher and Balducci each tallied a RBI.
 
Tori Pierucci was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst going the distance on the mound. She struck out two batters and didn't allow a single earned run.
 
For Slippery Rock, Becca Roesch had the lone run and she also tallied one hit. Megan Brown and Kailey Myers had one hit each.
 
Camie Shumaker was the losing pitcher for Slippery Rock. She pitched all seven innings while allowing two earned runs and walking two batters.
 
Slippery Rock 4, Mercyhurst 2
After three scoreless innings, the Rock took a 1-0 lead in the fourth before adding three more in the sixth to make it 4-0. The Lakers starting a comeback run with two runs in the seventh inning but it wasn't enough.
 
Chloe McQuestion and Graff scored runs for Mercyhurst (6-19). Coons and Dougher each had two hits while Ward, Graff and McQuestion had one hit each. Graff and McQuestion each doubled.
 
Dougher and McQuestion each tallied one RBI.
 
Pierucci pitched all six innings while striking out three batters and allowing three earned runs.
 
For Slippery Rock (11-14), Maggie Moore, Kaitlyn Bowman, Brown and Roesch scored runs. Brown had two hits while Leah Vith, Myers and Moore tallied one hit each.
 
Chole Sharman was the winning pitcher for Slippery Rock. She played six innings while recording one strikeout and walking three batters. Andria Copelli earned the save, allowing one hit on three at bats.
