ERIE, Pa – The Mercyhurst softball team was downed by California, Pa 2-1 and 9-1 during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Softball Field.
The Lakers are back in action on April 28 for their final regular season games. They will host Edinboro for a double header.
Cal. Pa. 2, Mercyhurst 1 (7 inn)
Cal scored two runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Mercyhurst came back with one run in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough.
Ellie Dougher,
Emma LeGendre and
Jamie Ward each went 1-for-3 for Mercyhurst.
LeGendre had the single run, as she homered to left center field.
Tori Pierucci went the distance on the mound for the Lakers. She struck out four batters and allowed two earned runs.
For Cal, Brooke Wilson, Emilee Downing, Sierra Besser-Paul, Carly Konopka ad Hannah Clunk had hits. Taylor Robblee and Wilson scored runs for the Vulcans.
Downing was the winning pitcher for Cal. She pitched seven innings while striking out nine batters and allowing one earned run.
Cal. Pa. 9, Mercyhurst 1 (6 inn.)
Mercyhurst scored its only run of the game during the first inning to give it an early 1-0 lead. Cal then scored four runs in the second inning, one in the third and fourth innings and three in the sixth inning to win 9-1.

Jenna Balducci, LeGendre and Dougher all went 1-for-3 for the Lakers. Dougher had the lone run.
Pierucci was the losing pitcher for Mercyhurst. She pitched three innings while allowing four earned runs.
Laura Gregory pitched two innings while striking out one batter and allowing four earned runs.
For Cal, Wilson went 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Robblee went 2-for-3 and had one run.
Janelle Allison, Alexa Pastor, Downing, Besser-Paul and Clunk had one hit each. Allison hit a home run that brought in two other players to end the game.
Konopka scored two runs while single runs were earned by Kaitlyn Corle, Downing, Allison and Pastor.
Robblee went the distance on the mound while striking out two batters and allowing one earned run.
