#23 Women's Lax Wins Seventh Straight, Clinches Berth And Home Game In PSAC Tournament

EDINBORO, Pa. -- The 23rd-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated Edinboro, 15-4, in PSAC action on Wednesday. The victory was MU's seventh straight win and it clinched both a PSAC Tournament berth and PSAC Tournament home game in the first round for the Lakers.

KEY NUMBERS
  • Julia Rescott was Mercyhurst's leading goal-scorer with four tallies.
  • Lacey Netti added three goals and two assists. She leads the team in assists (45) and points (69).
  • Angelina Simon added three goals while Torie Sullivan put in two.
  • Single goals were recorded by Brenna Fosco, Emma Hubert and Molly Meegan. Hubert leads the squad with 55 goals.
  • Fosco also had three assists while Hubert tacked on one helper.
  • Kira Kolb totaled four draw controls, five groundballs and three caused turnovers. She is the team leader in each category with 90, 69 and 39, respectively.
  • Simon led Mercyhurst on the draw with seven DCs.
  • Winning goaltender Kaitlyn Lippert stopped five shots. She now has a 7-1 record.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Simon had the contest's first goal before Edinboro answered to knot the game at 1-1.
  • Rescott began a 5-0 Mercyhurst run with three goals of her own. Netti added the other two as the visiting Lakers built a 6-1 halftime lead.
  • The Fighting Scots trimmed their deficit to 6-2 before MU went on a decisive nine-goal streak. Simon and Sullivan had two goals during that stretch, which left Mercyhurst with a 15-2 advantage with 7:41 remaining in the contest.

NEXT UP
  • The Lakers (11-5, 8-3) will wrap up their regular season with a visit to Kutztown on Saturday.
  • Mercyhurst will enter the PSAC Tournament as the three- or four-seed. A win would hand the Lakers the No. 3 seed; a loss and Indiana (Pa.) win would move Mercyhurst down to No. 4.
