SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 contest to PSAC opponent Slippery Rock on Tuesday. The Lakers played with only five players and had to forfeit one singles match and one doubles match. Both teams are regionally-ranked: MU is No. 3 in the Atlantic and SRU is fifth.
SRU won both doubles matches on the court to take a 1-0 match lead. MU then won 3 of 5 singles contests, coming up one point short.
With MU trailing 2-0 due to a singles forfeit,
Kayla Frost pulled the score to 2-1 with her 6-3, 6-0, victory over Lacey Cohen at No. 1 singles.
Slippery Rock took the next two points to clinch the match before
Sangeeta Roopan and
Naomi Jahr claimed points at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively.
Roopan defeated Viola Lugmayr, 6-4, 6-1, and Jahr bested Olivia Warner, 6-3, 6-1.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Friday when it visits California (Pa.).
