Softball Falls Twice to Gannon

ERIE, Pa – The Mercyhurst softball team fell 8-0 and 4-0 to Gannon during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
 
The Lakers are back in action on April 16 when they travel to Edinboro for a double header starting at 2:30 p.m.
 
Gannon 8, Mercyhurst 0 (6 inn)
Gannon took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before adding four runs in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth inning and two more runs in the sixth inning.
 
Alyssa Coons, Jenna Balducci and Emma LeGendre each went 1-for-2 while Natalie Graff also had one hit.
 
Coons had a double for the Lakers.
 
Tori Pierucci was the losing pitcher for Mercyhurst. She pitched three innings while Laura Gregory pitched two innings.
 
For Gannon, Megan Dietrick had three runs, Sarah Ingerick scored two runs and single runs were earned by Kristina DeMatteis, Maria Taliani and Taylor Wilp.
 
Taliani, Dietrick and Wilp had doubles for the Golden Knights.
 
Kennedy DeMatteis was the winning pitcher going the distance. She had seven strike outs and walked one batter.
 
Gannon 4, Mercyhurst 0
Gannon scored all four runs in the first inning.
 
Ellie Dougher, Sarah Koscho, Graff, LeGrendre and Balducci all had single hits for Mercyhurst (9-24).
 
Gregory was the losing pitcher allowing four earned runs. Pierucci struck out six batters.
 
For Gannon (18-11), Kaity Stocker, Lisa Szajn, Kristina DeMatteis and Ingerick had runs. Ingerick hit a home run and had one double.
 
Madi Beining was the winning pitcher going the distance on the mound. She struck out nine batters.
