ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team scored 52 second-half points en route to a 78-48 victory over Seton Hill in a PSAC Tournament first-round matchup on Monday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
Jason Massey led the Lakers (21-6) with 22 points and seven rebounds while
Nelson Maxwell put in 18 points and
MiyKah McIntosh scored 10.
Also for MU,
Patrick Smith hauled down 10 rebounds while
Edvaldo Ferreira totaled nine rebounds and three blocks.
Trevor Blondi was SHU's leading scorer with 21 points.
Mercyhurst led 26-25 at halftime before the visiting Griffins took a 28-26 lead in the second period. The Lakers then took the lead for good with a 9-0 run, getting four points from Massey during that stretch.
Leading 46-40, the Lakers broke the game open with a 17-point run. Massey had seven points during the surge while Maxwell contributed six as MU decisively ran away to victory.
Mercyhurst was 10 of 29 from the field in the first half (34.5 percent) before going 18 of 27 in the second (66.7) while SHU was 11 of 22 in the first (50.0) and then 6 of 21 in the second (28.6). The Lakers were dominated on the boards, outrebounding the visitors, 40-17.
With the victory, MU advanced to the PSAC Tournament quarterfinals. It will visit PSAC West second-seed Slippery Rock on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. start.
