ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team split its double header with Gannon winning 8-2 and falling 15-0 during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at the Mercyhurst Softball Field on Thursday.
The Lakers are back in action on March 30 when they travel to Slippery Rock for a double header starting at 1:00 p.m.

Jamie Ward and
Natalie Graff hit home runs for the Lakers while
Ellie Dougher,
Emma LeGendre,
Chloe McQuestion,
Erin Sammarco,
Sarah Koscho and
Paige Crittela scored single runs.
Mercyhurst took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Ward homered and brought in LeGendre. The Lakers then added two more runs in the fourth inning to make it 4-0. Graff hit her first home run of the season, bringing in McQuestion. During the sixth inning, Gannon scored two runs but Mercyhurst answered back with four runs to win 8-2.
Dougher led the team with four hits while
Taylor Fry has two hits. Single hits were earned by
Alyssa Coons,
Jolene Teller, LeGendre, Ward, Koscho, Graff and Crittela.
Tori Pierucci was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst going the distance. She had four strikeouts and allowed two earned runs.
For Gannon, Lisa Szajn and Rachel Tanilli scored runs and had one hit each. Other Golden Knights recording one hit were Autumn Smith, Ashley Bower and Taylor Wilp.
Madi Beining pitched seven innings for Gannon while walking four batters and allowing two earned runs.
Gannon 15, Mercyhurst 0 (5 inn.)
Gannon (12-7, 1-1) took an early five lead in the first inning before adding four in the second, five in the third and one in the fourth inning to win 15-0. The Black Knights scored eight home runs.
Kennedy DeMatteis was the winning pitcher for Gannon. She walked two batters and had three strikeouts.
Laura Gregory was the losing pitcher for Mercyhurst (5-18, 1-1), pitching one inning.
Tori Pierucci pitched two innings and
Josey Moorhead pitched one inning.
