Softball Loses Extra-Inning Contest To Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Mercyhurst softball team fell in its first contest at the Spring Games, dropping a 7-6 decision in nine innings to Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.

Ellie Dougher led the Mercyhurst offense, batting 3-for-5 with one run scored. Natalie Graff and Sarah Koscho went 2-for-5.

The Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Koscho before WJU evened the score at 1-1 in the fourth.

MU scored twice in the fifth on RBI singles by Alyssa Coons and Jenna Balducci. The Lakers eventually led 5-2 through six innings before Wheeling tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh.

Both teams tacked on runs in the sixth before Wheeling Jesuit plated the go-ahead -- and eventual game-winning -- run in the top half of the ninth.

The Lakers (1-8) will return to action at the Spring Games on Sunday with an 11:15 a.m. contest against Findlay.
