Women's Basketball Will Return Home to Host Clarion

ERIE, Pa.—The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will return home from a three game road trip to take on PSAC opponent Clarion.

Previous Game Recap
  • Despite the loss, MU had three scorers in double digits.  Amber Renz led the way with 18 points, followed by Rachel Chessar with 13 and Lauren Lapertosa with 10. Kori Sidwell, Jenna Kunst and Meghan Komendarek each had team high three rebounds.
  • In the first quarter, the Lakers saw its only lead of the game (5-4) with a layup by Renz.  IUP would respond with a 14-0 run putting the Crimson Hawks up 18-5 with just over a minute to go in the first.  Lapertosa would end this run making a three pointer with 38 seconds to go in the quarter but Ana Hollen would respond with a three of her own. The Crimson Hawks would take a 21-8 lead going into the second.
  • IUP (18-1, 13-1) would come storming into the second quarter going on a 7-0 run with Robinson leading the way with four of the seven points.  Lapertosa would again end the run with a layup making the score 28-10 IUP. The Crimson Hawks would then go on another run (8-0) before Kunst would drain a three ending the run and making the score 36-12. IUP would go into the half leading 43-18.
  • Coming out of the half, IUP would yet again go on another 8-0 run with Griggs having four of the eight. The Lakers wouldn't have an answer for the Crimson Hawk offense leading by as many as 34 before heading into the fourth quarter by a score of 65-34. In the final quarter, Mercyhurst (8-13, 5-9) couldn't slow down IUP as they held on to the big lead and would close the game out winning 81-56.
 
 
Leading the Lakers
  • Renz leads the Lakers in scoring with 11.7 points per game followed by Eliza Oswalt with 9.7 and Shopene with 7.0 per game
  • Shopene also leads MU in assists and is fifth in the PSAC averaging 4.2 per game
  • Lapertosa cleans up the glass for the Lakers leading the team with 4.3.
 
 
 As a Team
  • In the conference, MU is tenth in scoring averaging 67.6 points per game and is 12th in defense allowing 71 points per game
  • Mercyhurst is third in the conference in three point field goal perecentage (.347) and fourth in three point field goals made (7.1)
Scouting Clarion
  • Clarion is on an 11 game losing streak and will look to turn that around as they travel to Mercyhurst
  • Clarion is 16th in the PSAC in scoring (61.4) and sixth in defense only allowing 65 points per game
  • Kadijah Dickson is a player to watch for Clarion as she averages 15.3 points per game putting her 14th in the conference
  • Dickson also leads the team in rebounds and is seventh in the PSAC averaging 7.7 per game.
Against Clarion
  • In the Previous game, Mercyhurst won on the road 62-60 with Renz putting up 22 points and six boards.
  • MU leads the all-time series 26-21 over the Golden Eagles
