NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Mercyhurst softball team fell 8-0 to Newberry and 8-3 to Claflin on Sunday.
Newberry 8, Mercyhurst 0 (6 inn.)
Action between the Lakers and Wolves was locked at 0-0 through the first 2 1/2 innings of play before Newberry scored one run in the third. The Wolves went on to scored two runs in the fourth, before scoring four in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Jamie Ward and
Sarah Koscho each had hits for Mercyhurst.
Lauren Gregory pitched for Mercyhurst while Selice Daley was the winning pitcher for Newberry.
Natalie Willis, Hannah Davis and Paige Meyer led Newberry with two hits each. Willis also led with four RBI while Haley Simonds and Davis had two.
Claflin 8, Mercyhurst 3 (7 inn.)
Claflin took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, before Mercyhurst tied it at 3-3 with two runs in the second and one in the fifth. Claflin then went on to score four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to win 8-3.
Ellie Dougher led the Lakers going 3-for-4.

Natalie Graff, Ward and Koscho also had hits for Mercyhurst.
Jolene Teller and Fry each had one RBI.
Allison Smith-DiLisi recorded four strikeouts in five innings while
Tori Pierucci had two strikeouts.
LaKaylin Lee and Chast Huntly led the Panthers with three RBI. Shani Thomas was the winning pitcher.
The Lakers (0-4) are back in action Feb. 16-17 when they head to Harrogate, Tenn. On Saturday, they will play Ohio Dominican University at 12:30 p.m. and Davis & Elkins at 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, they will take on Lincoln Memorial at 10 a.m. before playing Ohio Dominican at 12:30 p.m.
