HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Mercyhurst Softball team earned its first win of the season 5-4 over Ohio Dominican before falling 16-1 to Davis & Elkins later Saturday afternoon.
Mercyhurst 5, Ohio Dominican 4 (7 inn.)
Natalie Graff led the way for Mercyhurst going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Taylor Fry,
Sarah Koscho,
Emma LeGendre and
Paige Crittela contributed one run each.
Jamie Ward and Fry were also credited with one RBI each.
After a scoreless two and a half innings, Mercyhurst broke free with four runs in the third inning. Ohio Dominican came back with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to tie the game, but it wasn't enough as Mercyhurst earned one run in the sixth to pick up its first win of the season.
Tori Pierucci was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst in just over five innings.
Laura Gregory faced five batters in one inning.
Abby Lamping was the losing pitcher for Ohio Dominican. She and Sydney Long split the game with three innings each.
Davis & Elkins 16, Mercyhurst 1 (5 inn.)
Fry went 2-for-2 at bat for the Lakers and scored the only run. Graff also had one hit while Koscho had the teams only RBI.
Mercyhurst took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, before Davis & Elkins ran away with five runs in the third and 11 in the fourth.
Gregory pitched three innings for Mercyhurst while
Josey Moorhead pitched one inning.
Jade Allee was the winning pitcher for David & Elkins as she pitched four innings.
The Lakers are back in action Sunday against Ohio Dominican at 10 a.m. and Lincoln Memorial at 12:30 p.m.
