Men's Basketball Bounces Back With Win Over Seton Hill

ERIE, Pa. -- Derrick Ellis Jr. totaled 24 points, seven assists and four steals to lead the Mercyhurst men's basketball team to an 82-58 victory over PSAC opponent Seton Hill at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Saturday.

Nelson Maxwell and Patrick Smith added 11 points each for the Lakers (17-5, 12-5) while Edvaldo Ferriera put in 10. Smith and Ferreira grabbed eight and six rebounds, respectively.

SHU was led by Trevor Blondin and Nathan Davis, who had 21 and 20 points, respectively.

After allowing the game's first two points, Mercyhurst went on a 13-0 run to take an early lead. MiyKah McIntosh had six points during that stretch as he buried a pair of 3-pointers.

Seton Hill pulled back into a tie at 15-15 before Ellis led the Lakers back into the lead. Ellis, who had 16 points in the first half, had 14 of those after the 15-all knot as Mercyhurst took a 40-33 lead into halftime.

The host Lakers opene dthe second half with an 8-0 run, getting six points from Ellis during that stretch. That was the start of a lengthier 15-2 run which left the Lakers with a 55-35 advantage. The Lakers' largest lead was 28 points.

MU held a 33-28 edge in rebounds and shot 53.3 percent from the field (32 of 60). SHU shot 40.4 percent (21 of 52).

The Lakers remain in third place in the PSAC West Division -- and will likely stay in third through the remainder of the regular season. They trail second-place Slippery Rock by 2 1/2 games and lead fourth-place Pittsburgh-Johnstown by 3 1/2 games.

Mercyhurst will return to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. PSAC home game against California (Pa.).
