Men's Ice Hockey Rolls Again Against Canisius

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team claimed a 5-3 victory over Atlantic Hockey opponent Canisius on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers have won all three of their meetings thus far against the Golden Griffins with matchup No. 4 taking place on Saturday in Buffalo.

Joshua Lammon had one goal and one assist for the Lakers (13-14-2, 11-9-1) while Michael Bevilacqua, James Anderson, Dalton Hunter and Owen Norton added single goals. Norton's score was his first as a collegian.

Wes Baker, Joseph Duszak and Josh McDougall made two assists apiece. Taylor Best, Derek Barach and Geoff Kitt also had assists.

Stefano Cantali was the winning goaltender, finishing with 40 saves.

Dylan McLaughlin led Canisius (9-15-2, 6-13-1) with two goals and one assist. Austin Alger added one goal and two assists. Matt Stief had two assist and Matt Hoover contributed one helper.

MU took a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. Bevilacqua scored, with assists from Baker and Kitt, before Anderson and Hunter tallied 59 seconds apart. Anderson had assists from Duszak and Best. Hunter was assisted by Barach and Duszak on the power play.

Lammon increased the lead to four goals during the second period, scoring on the power play, with help from Baker and McDougall.

McLaughlin got Canisius on the board in the second. Norton answered with a power-play goal late in the period, getting assists from McDougall and Lammon.

McLaughlin added another goal late in the third before Alger tacked on a power-play score for the Golden Griffins in the third.

Mercyhurst went 3-for-6 on the power play while Canisius was 2-for-10.

With two assists, Barach moved into sole possession for fourth all-time on MU's all-time scoring list. He now has 138 points, having broken a tie with David Wrigley, who had 136 in 2001-05. Barach is also fourth all-time in career assists (93).

Meanwhile, Duszak continued his hot streak. He has recorded at least one point in 12 straight games, totaling 24 points during that stretch.

The Lakers and Griffins will meet again Saturday. This time, puck-drop will occur at the Harborcenter in Buffalo, N.Y., at 7:35 p.m.
