PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Khristian Acosta netted both goals for the Lakers as the Mercyhurst men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 draw with host Robert Morris Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey action.
The Lakers trailed 2-1 late in the third period, but with 2:43 remaining in the game Acosta netted his second goal of the game to knot the game 2-2.
Acosta got the scoring started when he recovered the puck on the penalty kill and streaked down the right wing before picking a corner for the first shorthanded goal of the season for the Lakers making the score 1-0.
The Colonials tied the game with a power play tally on the same penalty as Acosta's goal. Noaln Schaeffer gave Robert Morris the advantage with 4:05 left in the third period.
After a scoreless 5-on-5 overtime, the teams played 3-on-3 for the extra point in the Atlantic Hockey standings. The teams traded opportunities before Michael Coyne scored the winner for the Colonials with 10 seconds left in the 3-on-3 overtime.
Josh McDougall and Owen Norton each notched an assist for the Lakers. Acosta put nine shots on net to lead the way for the Lakers.
Aiden Spellacy and Justin Addamo each picked up a pair of points to lead the way for the Colonials.
Garrett Metcalf stopped 37 shots for the Lakers in net for the Lakers.
Mercyhurst is back in action on Friday, when they travel to RIT for an Atlantic Hockey contest with the Tigers. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
