ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will look to stretch their win streak to three games on Wednesday afternoon when they welcome the Arrows of Ursuline College to the Mercyhurst Athletic Center for a pre-Thanksgiving non-conference contest at 2pm.

Last Time Out
The Lakers earned their first and second wins of the season last weekend defeating Millersville (76-69) and Shepherd (84-80). In those two games Mercyhurst had five players have double-digit outings as
Eliza Oswalt and
Amber Renz did it on Saturday, with
Emily Shopene,
Lauren Lapertosa,
Vivian Allison, and Renz accomplished the feat the next day. Lapertosa was the leading rebounder each contest pulling down a game-high eight against Millersville and then sharing a team-high five with
Kori Sidwell versus Shepherd.
Scouting the Lakers (2-4, 2-0 PSAC)
Team Numbers
Mercyhurst is averaging 70.3 points per game shooting 44.5% from the field, 31.4% beyond the arc, and 73.2% on the charity stripe. The Lakers hand out 15 assists per game, while hauling in 35.5 rebounds per game. They also average three blocks per contest.
Protect the Ball
Turnovers have been a problem for the Lakers so far, but they have brought their average down from 19 to 16.2 per contest. One of their most impressive performances came on Saturday when they were able to overcome a season-high 22 turnovers in the win over Millersville. They then turned it around on Sunday to only cough it up ten times against Shepherd in handing the Rams their first setback of the year.
Ball Hogs
The Lakers as a team have totaled 41 steals on the season, averaging 6.8 per game. Shopene paces the team with ten and Lapertosa has eight, followed by
Nicolete Newman with six. Renz, Oswalt, and Allison each have four.
Crash the Boards
Mercyhurst held a +20 rebound margin on the weekend helped out by a +18 advantage over Millersville on Saturday 44-26. Lapertosa is the team leader with 6.5 rpg, followed by 4.2 for Newman. Shopene, Allison, Renz, and Oswalt all average over three boards per game.
Scoring Trio
The group of Renz (13.8), Shopene (10.8), and Newman (10.3) lead the attack for the Lakers with all three averaging double-figures.
Strong Day for Oswalt
On Saturday against Millersville, Oswalt put up her third highest scoring output of her career by pouring in 20 shooting 50% from the floor (6-12), 4-6 outside the arc and a perfect 4-4 on the foul line.
Block Party
Komendarek has eight of the Lakers eighteen blocks on the season averaging 3.0 bpg. Renz and Lapertosa each have two, while Shopene, Sidwell, and Oswalt each have one.
Scouting the Arrows (1-5, 0-0 G-MAC)
Ursuline arrives in Erie having lost five straight, including their last time out at Northwood University 94-83 on Saturday. The Arrows rank 40th in free throw percentage at 75.7% and are in inside the Top-40 in three-pointers attempted (143) and three hit (47). Overall, from the floor they are shooting at a 41.1% clip. In order to stay in the game Ursuline will have to keep the Lakers off the glass which has been difficult as they hold a -13.3 rebound margin. Mercyhurst will have to slow down Rebekah Green and Ky Crevison as both average double-figures with Green pacing the duo with 17.5. Crevison adds 11.2, followed by Tamara Mathis and her 9.5 ppg. Julia Cardwell lands just outside the double-digit mark scoing 9.2 per game, and is their leading rebounder pulling down 7.5 rpg. Shannon Sword is in her 8th season leading the Blue and Yellow.
Gone for Awhile
After, Wednesday afternoon the Lakers will play their final three game until Winter Break on the road as they will visit West Chester (Dec. 7), Bloomsburg (Dec. 20), and East Stroudsburg (Dec. 21). Mercyhurst will not return home until January 3rd when they welcome the Griffins of Seton Hill University to the Athletic Center.
