Women's Soccer Comes Back for 4-1 Win over California Pa

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team came back for a 4-1 win over California (Pa) during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
 
Beata Sundling, Cristy Senskey, Maya Bauer and Lauren Casey scored while Amber Thomas had an assist for Mercyhurst (6-3-1, 4-3-1).
 
During the 22nd minute, Juliana Cruz scored to get Cal. Pa on the board first.
 
Mercyhurst then came back with four unanswered goals to win 4-1.
 
Sundling started off the scoring for Mercyhurst with an assist from Thomas. Thomas took the corner kick and place it right in the middle of the box for Sundling to head into the back of the net and tie the game at 1-1.
 
In the 45th minute of play, the ball was chipped up past the defense to Senskey who put it over the head of Vulcans goaltender Carly Gobbie to give Mercyhurst a 2-1 lead.
 
The Lakers were then awarded a penalty kick in the 82nd minute and Bauer capitalized on it, going right down the middle.
 
With 18 seconds left in the game, Casey sent a rocket to the back of the net to give Mercyhurst a 4-1 win.
 
Vilde Wold made one save in net for Mercyhurst while Gobbie made six saves for Cal. Pa.
 
Mercyhurst had a 10-2 shots on goal advantage and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
The Lakers are back in action on Oct. 11 when they host Edinboro at 7:30 p.m. on Saxon Stadium.
