Women's Ice Hockey Falls 4-1 to Minnesota Duluth During First Day of Ice Breaker

Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. –  The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team fell 4-1 to Minnesota Duluth during the first day of the Women's Ice Breaker on Friday.
 
Sarah Nelles scored while Alexane Rheaume and Celine Frappier had assists for Mercyhurst (4-2-1).
 
Gabbie Hughes scored two goals while Kasyndra Betinol scored one goal for Minnesota Duluth (4-3-0).
 
Nelles got the Lakers on the board first with her second goal of the season at 11:12 of the first period. While on the power play and a delayed penalty call Frappier passed the puck up to the point to Rheaume who took a shot that Nelles redirected into the back of the net.
 
UMD tied the game at 1-1 with 43 seconds left in the first period. Hughes scored with help from Taylor Anderson.
 
During the second period, UMD scored twice to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. The Bulldogs then score the empty net goal to win 4-1.
 
Kennedy Blair made 27 saves in goal for Mercyhurst while Maddie Rooney made 30 saves for UMD.
 
The Lakers went 1-for-9 on the power play while the Bulldogs were 0-for-7.
 
The Lakers are back in action Saturday at 4:30 p.m. to play the loser of Colgate and UConn.
