Field Hockey Heads to Slippery Rock on Tuesday

ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst field hockey team will go in search of their second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference win when they travel to Slippery Rock University for a 4pm matinee against the Rock on Tuesday afternoon.

Scouting the Lakers:
Mercyhurst is coming off a loss to Shippensburg University last Saturday on Senior Day.  The Lakers were held to just one shot (on goal) which came off the stick of senior Clare Ahern.  Sophomore goalie Libby Jones made nine saves, while senior Mikayla Berndt spent time in cage as well turning away one shot.  On the season Alexis Skibitsky leads the team with five goals and ten points.  Katie Ballew, Hayley Skidmore, Jillian Blas, and Ahern have each scored once.  Defensively, Abby D'Amato has been credited with three defensive saves, while Jones has made 92 stops in net.

Scouting the Rock:
Slippery Rock comes in with a mark of 3-11 overall and 0-6 in PSAC play.  They have lost their last three games against East Stroudsburg, Mansfield, and Millersville, including a pair of shutouts.  Jessie Trube leads the Rock attack with six goals on 37 shots (23 on goal) along with two assists for a team-high 14 points.  Kayla Ulrich also has hit double-digits in points with ten thanks to four goals and a pair of helpers.  Courtney Page, Addy Ross, and Emily Polakovsky each have two markers on the season.  At the other end of the field Holly Stiller and Kalie Reed have combined to post five defensive saves.  In goal Hannah Nurse and Maddie Murphy have both made starts with Nurse making nine posting a 2-7 record with a 2.90 goals against and a .753 save percentage.           

Series History:
The Lakers hold a 20-7 advantage over Slippery Rock, including a 5-2 win last season in Erie.  In that game, Lizzy Laird, Alexandria Shumsky, Skidmore, Skibitsky, and D'Amato all found the back of the cage.  

Waiting in the Water:
Mercyhurst returns home on Saturday, October 26th when they welcome the seventh-ranked Golden Bears of Kutztown University to Saxon Stadium beginning at 11 am.
