Field Hockey Blanked by No. 1 West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Sophomore goalie Libby Jones made nine saves in the losing effort as the Lakers suffered a 10-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference loss to the top-ranked West Chester Golden Rams on Saturday Afternoon.

West Chester struck just 1:26 in when Danielle Venter found Katie Thompson inside the circle for the 1-0 lead.  After Jones denied Caitlin Kelly the ensuing rebound came out to Caitie McNamara who sent a pass to Kelly who hit the cage to ahead 2-0 through one.

The Golden Rams tacked on four in the second as McNamara, Kelly (2), and Kat Roncoroni found the goal to go ahead 6-0 at the break.

In the second half things did not improve for the Lakers with Thompson, McNamara, and Marre Corver scoring in the third, while Tara Hausker put one away in the fourth for the final.

Mikayla Berndt spent the second half between the pipes for the Lakers and recorded four saves.

Mercyhurst returns to action on Saturday, October 19th when they host Shippensburg University at Saxon Stadium with first hit set for 5pm.
