Box Score EDINBORO, Pa.—The Mercyhurst women's basketball team fell on the road today due to a late serge from the Edinboro on Wednesday night.
Four Lakers scored in double digits including
Eliza Oswalt and
Amber Renz who led the MU tallying 11 points each.
Lauren Lapertosa and
Jenna Kunst both scored 10.
Lauren Lapertosa and Kunst led the Lakers in rebounds with five, respectively.
For Edinboro (13-5, 9-4) Michaela Barnes scored game high 35 points and recorded five rebounds.
Halfway through the first, after trading back and forth, the Fighting Scots went on a 5-0 run starting with a Jontay Walton three pointer. Right before the end of the first, Edinboro would push the lead to nine before
Emily Shopene would hit a three pointer making the score 17-11 Edinboro. Mercyhurst (8-12, 5-8) wouldn't stop there with two more three pointers coming from Oswalt and then Kunst to tie the game and close out the first 17-17.
Early in the second, both teams would exchange the lead twice before Shopene would hit another three pointer making the game 24-21 Lakers. The Fighting Scots would not go away and eventually retook the lead with just over a minute left in the half when Macy Tarrant hit the go ahead three to make it 35-33. Oswalt would respond with a three of her own before Barnes answered back with a layup and would give Edinboro a 37-36 lead going into the half.
Coming out of the half, Lakers own Kunst would connect with a layup, tying the game at 40 all. The Lakers next possession,
Meghan Komendarek would hit a jumper giving MU the lead 42-41 with just over seven minutes to go. But yet again, Edinboro would respond with a 9-0 run giving EU the lead 50-42. MU would respond cutting the deficit to only two but a big three pointer by Bridgette Shaffer gave the Fighting Scots a five point lead (55-50) going into the fourth.
Edinboro's first possession in the fourth resulted in a Michelle Jahn three pointer. EU would then score four more consecutive points pushing the lead to 12 (62-50). With 2:21 left to go in the game, Lapertosa would make two free-throws which would start a Laker 10-2 run cutting the lead to four (72-68). Edinboro would have another answer for the Laker run as they would close out the game on an 8-2 run.
The Fighting Scots shot 48 percent from the floor compared to the Lakers 39.3 percent. Both teams would have the same amount of rebounds (33). The Lakers had 26 bench points while EU had only five. Throughout the game there was 11 different lead changes.
