Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team fell 4-2 during College Hockey American action to the Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday.
Emma Nuutinen had a goal and an assist while
Samantha Fieseler scored the other Laker goal.
Maggie Knott,
Vilma Tanskanen and
Alexa Vasko had assists for Mercyhurst (9-10-3, 6-3-0).
Logan Land, Ellie Larson, Tori Haywood and Kathryn Kennedy scored for RIT (9-10-4, 5-4-0).
Early in the first period, Nuutinen scored with assists from Knott and Tanskanen. Knott broke up play behind the net and sent the puck out to Tanskanen who dished it over to Nuutinen for her 12th goal of the season.
Four minutes and eight seconds into the second period, RIT tied the game at 1-1 with a goal from Land.
Late in the second period, Mercyhurst took the lead back with Fieseler's third goal of the season assisted by Nuutinen and Vasko. Nuutinen took the puck from behind the net and dished it to Fieseler for the one-timer.
RIT then scored two goals in 36 seconds to take a 3-2 lead. Larson scored on the power play to tie it at 2-2 before Rushton scored the eventual, game-winning goal.
Kennedy added the empty net goal for RIT to give it a 4-2 win.
Kennedy Blair made 28 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Terra Lanteigne stopped 39 shots for RIT.
The Lakers went 0-for-4 on the power play while the Tigers were 1-for-8.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday at noon.
