EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst volleyball team lost 3-1 to East Stroudsburg in PSAC action on Saturday. The Lakers lost by set scores of 27-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15.
Katie Baird led the Laker offense with 11 kills and 10 digs while
Madison Kasper finished with seven digs.
Also for the Lakers (6-9, 1-1),
Claire Kenny and
Mary Marusza totaled 22 and 17 assists, respectively.
Hannah Vuylsteke made 25 digs.
The Warriors were led by Sarah Smith's 16 kills and Tina Predojevic's 39 assists.
ESU finished strong in each of the first two sets to grab a 2-0 match lead. The Lakers held set point at 24-22 in the first before the Warriors answered with a 5-1 run. ESU broke a 21-21 tie in the second with a 4-2 stretch.
In the third, Mercyhurst trailed 6-5 in the third set before taking the lead for good with a 13-5 stretch.
Shelby Chesko provided three kills during that run.
East Stroudsburg (12-2, 2-0) never trailed while winning the fourth set and clinching the match.
The Lakers will return to action on Friday and Saturday with a pair of PSAC home matches against West Chester and Millersville, respectively.
