Michael Sisti of the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team has announced team captains for the 2018-19 season. Senior defenseman
Morgan Stacey was named captain for the Lakers, while senior goaltender
Sarah McDonnell, senior forward
Vilma Tanskanen and junior forward
Maggie Knott were selected as alternate captains.
Stacey will enter her fourth season as a Laker with 105 games played. She has 19 assists during that time. She is coming off a year in which she had eight assists. Stacey has been an alternate captain for two seasons before moving into the lone 'C' role in 2018-19.
McDonnell was previously an alternate captain as a sophomore. In 63 collegiate games, she has a 30-21-9 record with a 2.12 goals-against average and .907 save percentage. Last year, she went 7-7-3 with a 2.27 GAA and .906 save percentage. As a freshman, McDonnell was named to the College Hockey America All-Rookie Team and claimed the CHA Goaltender Trophy.
Having transferred after two seasons with North Dakota, Tanskanen was named to the All-CHA First Team in her first years a Laker. She tied for the team lead in goals with 14. She also had 13 assists to rank second on the roster with 27 points. In 98 games as a college player, Tanskanen has 21 goals and 19 assists for 40 points.
Knott was the leading point-getter for Mercyhurst last year and was named to the All-CHA Second Team. She had 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points. Knott also led the team in game-winning goals with four. In 72 games for MU, Knott has 17 goals and 29 assists for 46 points. She was selected to the CHA All-Rookie Team two years ago.

The Lakers completed last season with a 18-15-4 overall record, including an 13-4-3 CHA record. They won the CHA Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament before falling the eventual national champ Clarkson, 2-1, in overtime during the quarterfinals.
