#15 Men's Lax Advances To G-MAC Final With Win Over #9 Lake Erie

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The 15th-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team broke a 5-all tie with three fourth-quarter goals to defeat ninth-ranked Lake Erie in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal at host Seton Hill. The Lakers are the three-seed in the tournament while LEC was the two-seed.

Oran Horn and Dom Perna scored 48 seconds apart, giving Mercyhurst a 7-5 advantage, and Dan Kritkausky tacked on an insurance goal with 8:12 left for the Lakers (11-4). Goalie Alec Starr, who totaled 15 saves, made the lead stand up.

Horn, Perna and Nathan Grenon finished with two goals each while Kritkausky and Austin Robare added single tallies.

Colin Greenway made three assists while Greg Weyl chipped in with one helper. Weyl also had five groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Mercyhurst railed 3-1 and 4-2 in the first half before a man-up goal by Perna and then a game-tying tally from Grenon knotted the contest at 4-4 before halftime.

The Storm (11-3) took its final lead early in the third quarter on a goal by Lucas Shafer before Robare equalized the contest at 5-5. That set the stage for MU's 3-0 fourth-quarter, which helped secure its berth in Saturday's G-MAC Tournament final against top-seed Seton Hill.

Shafer and Austin Bishop had two goals each for LEC. Conor Sharkey stopped nine shots in the cage.

The Storm outshot the Lakers, 38-27, and held a 23-21 edge in groundballs and 10-7 advantage in faceoffs.

The Lakers will take on SHU in Saturday's championship game, beginning at 12 p.m. The No. 3-ranked Griffins (15-1) defeated four-seed Wheeling Jesuit, 16-7, in Thursday's earlier semifinal.
