ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team fell twice in a doubleheader against Indiana (Pa.) on Monday at the Mercyhurst softball field. The Crimson Hawks claimed the first game by a score of 6-2, before defeating Mercyhurst 8-0 in the second half of the doubleheader. Individual game recaps below.
Game One- Mercyhurst (2) vs Indiana (6):
The Lakers were led by
Jolene Teller who went 1-for-2 and recorded the sole RBI for the Lakers.
Sarah Koscho held the best batting average of the first contest, earning a hit in her only at bat.
Indiana opened scoring for the contest in the first inning, when Kaitlyn Beers smacked a two run homer. Alaina Montgomery pushed the Crimson Hawks to a 3-0 lead in the second inning with a RBI single. Brooklyn Kotula added a run in the fourth giving Indiana (Pa.) its largest lead of the game 4-0.
Megan Christner scored for the Lakers in the bottom of the fourth, reaching on an error by the shortstop in which pushed the trailing Lakers to a 4-1 deficit.
Teller brought the Lakers within two runs in the bottom of the sixth when she hit a RBI double driving in
Taylor Fry.
Indiana pushed in a pair of runs in the top of the seventh closing scoring for the event.
Heather Nye was the losing pitcher for the Lakers she scattered four hits against 12 batters faced, recorded a strikeout, and was charged with three earned runs.
Lauren Zola was the winning pitcher for the Crimson Hawks, she recorded 11 strikeouts and was charged with one earned run.
Game Two (Five Innings)- Mercyhurst (0) vs Indiana (8):
Nye led the Lakers picking up a hit during her only at bat, while Teller went 1-for-2.
The Crimson Hawks posted a single run in the first inning opening scoring in game on a RBI single from Beers pushing Indiana to a 1-0 lead. Indiana recorded three runs in two at bats third inning, pushing them to a 4-0 lead. The Crimson Hawks earned their remaining four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Sarah Eschleman was the losing pitcher she threw for 3.1 innings, and scattered 12 hits, allowed one walk, and was charged with seven earned runs.
Megan Risinger was the winning pitcher for Indian she recorded a pair of strikeouts, allowed three walks, and dispersed two hits.
The softball team will play next on Wednesday when they host Edinboro in PSAC West play.
