GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opponent Seton Hill. The Lakers fell 9-1 to the Griffins in the first game before falling 7-2 in the second half of the doubleheader, individual game recaps below.
GAME 1- Mercyhurst (1) vs Seton Hill (9):
Taylor Fry led the Lakers going 2-for-3,
Meredith Grimes with 1-for-2 and recorded the sole RBI.
The Lakers opened up scoring in the fourth inning, when Grimes hit her RBI, driving in Koscho driving Mercyhurst to a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning the Griffins, scored three runs nabbing a 3-1 lead. Seton Hill would layer this lead by earning five runs in the sixth and a single run during the top of the seventh.
Tori Pierucci was the losing pitcher for the Lakers, she recorded eight strikeouts against 25 batters faced. Pierucci was charged with one earned run, and allowed one walk.
GAME 2- Mercyhurst (2) vs Seton Hill (7):
Emma LeGendre led the Lakers from the batter's box during the second half of the doubleheader, she went 1-for-2 and recorded a RBI.
Jolene Teller recorded the other RBI for the Lakers.
Seton Hill ran out to a 7-0 lead after the top of the third inning, holding on to this lead for the entirety of the game.
Emma LeGendre smacked a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning bringing the trailing Lakers to a 7-1 deficit. Teller continued to shorten the Griffin's lead when she hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Egelston.
Heather Nye was the losing pitcher for the Lakers she threw for 2.1 innings she was charged with three earned runs, against 13 batters faced. Nye allowed two walks and scattered four hits.
The Lakers will play again next when they host Indiana (Pa.) in a doubleheader on Monday at 2:30 and 4:30 pm.
